    RODO

    Good afternoon,

I had the fortune of purchasing a Heer EM's buckle by RODO this afternoon. I have heard through the local grapevine that these are rare by this maker. I can't find any other reference to this fact anywhere so I thought I'd pick your brains. Any help that you fellows could provide would be appreciated.

    Thanx,
    Greg

Hi Greg. Any maker-marked steel (M-40) SS EM is relatively uncommon. There is a
fake out, so you may want to post pics for JP.

        Reply by Marc Verstraete

Since Marc is waiting for "clearence" I will post his reply for him in the mean time.

"The RODO manufacture made more buckles than just the well know SS buckles. They also made regular army buckles. Those buckles are not common but not very rare eider. One can regularly see them at shows and generally dealers will point out the marking to raise the price above the other markings. This is not justified; it is not because this manufacture made SS buckles that the other buckles of this factory have to be more expensive. Otherwise all buckles made by manufactures that made SS buckles should be more expensive also and this make no sense.

RODO also made an EM buckle for the Kreigsmarine (steel with gold colour), This one on the other hand is not common at all and is a nice variation of maker in a Kreigsmarine buckle collection.

            Prices

Some collectors are selling those in even lesser condition up to $400.
Some dealers are selling RODO's SS buckles with no paint on front for $300
Both are able to sell those.
So, even if I will personnaly not buy it for this amount, I will say safely than $350 is a good average and attractive price if your buckle really still has 65% of its green paint remaining.

Thank you, Jean, I just double checked, and there is at least 2/3. I really do SS cloth and only own it because my friend had it. At least now I have a price. Sonny

Hi Jean, I'll just keep it and use it for trade for ss cloth in the future. Thanks again. Sonny

                        Dear Frank,

Your RODO marked SS-buckle is one among a lot of variations of SS-buckles.
RODO stands for the firm of...ROBERT C.DOLD,OFFENBURG.

The price is related to the condition of the buckle...$200-$500.

                        Pieter.

                            Hello Frank,
I was waiting to answer your mail because I wanted to give the opportunity to others to answer it. I only can agree with all the above comments.
Just to complete your information, I show in the picture below the full name of the RODO factory. You are correct, a RODO buckle with 60% paint remain will go for 300/350$
                            (If original of course!)
