Here's my example for comparision. my buckle has a nickle faceplate and the bar and prongs different. I've seen fakes of this buckle and the one in Evans book is a bad. I'll be interested in what other have to say. KirbyComment

This is a very interesting buckle and as we all know, it is a very rare FAD variant.
It is also a buckle which is extremely difficult to determine, as to whether being original or fake.
I have attached images of a definite fake and as can be seen, the detail to the roundel is first class. It is not too difficult to prise the roundel off and then, distress and age it, in order to make it look period. The other problem is that for the original buckles, it is not at all uncommon to find that Imperial and Weimar period brass boxes have been utilised. Essentially, small manufacturers at the time, utilising old or pre used stock item boxes. As such, originals of this buckle are often seen with re applied solder points and/or, silver solder around the roundel edge.
Attached are images of one that I hold and which I am 99% sure is original.
In my opinion, the one originally shown is an original and period example.
