This chemical we can buy here in Germany and it's is very effective for cleaning zinc.
three spoon-full from this powder and half a litre hot water..you wait one or two hours..clean a little bit with a toothbrush and if this is not good enough repeat the procedure.

For cleaning Aluminium we use oxal acid.
