    Early O&C SS Small Mark

This must be a completely different die from other nickle O&C SS buckles.

Actually, a very well known, well documented and specific design, towards a nickle silver SS buckle that is sometimes perhaps clumsily referred to as the ""fat eagle" type.

The one that you have displayed however and in my opinion, is simply outstanding !!

Ignoring the superb condition which is somewhat difficult to do, the dignification and the provenance of the buckle (by the Overhoff mark), is a quite stunning and important feature.

      Regards,

      David

            Hello Bob,

thanks for sharing such beauty, as rightly said by David a well known eagle but up today by an unknown maker.

Any chance to have a marking close-up by the Forum ?

            Best

The marking does not mean the buckle was actually made by Overhoff. It means the buckle was made in complience with a patent held by Overhoff. Whoever was the maker of this buckle, he was not the only one to have done so. The great information to consider is that the maker was certainly important (the number of remaining buckles already lead us to believe so but such marking is a step forward). To obtain certain rights from Overhoff was probably not cheap - or at least not for small makers. Only a large production could pay back the investment.
The very first one I see myself marked.

Bob please let me know if one day you are going to sell it!
