Today I received this buckle but to me the paint looks wrong did army buckles in steel come in silver paint?
The paint appears old

Hi Lassi,

your buckle looks an original one late war painted.
Many makers did produce WH/LW steel buckles silver painted, but the purpose is still unknown (at least by myself)

Hi Lars, some believe that late silver Heer buckles were used for parades, just a theory thought by some but not proven

Thanks guys after another look at the buckle I´m pretty sure it has bean sprayed postwar the backside has original late war brown paint. The front side has paint over pitting.

I think that the buckle was in a bad shape and someone sprayed it to look better.
