Hi guys, had some new buckles in today to add to the Heer collective. First up a nice aluminium buckle by the maker Schmidt & Co. First time I have ever heard of this maker, buckle cost me a bit over price but it had to go into the collective. If anyone has any info on this maker could you please let me know. I cannot find any ref to this maker in all the M numbers whether buckle maker or tinnie maker. Buckle is unmarked, tab is marked Schmidt & Co K G Schwelm and dated 1937

Hi Ben,
wish you a lot of fun with the PuC buckle!!
Wow!! Schmidt - that is a rare maker!! Congrats to you nice find.
That is one of the kicks in our hobby, to find new unknown makers. Super!
But when I had seen the buckle without tab, I would swear the maker is Dransfeld & Co. in Menden. The indistinct reverse side is a feature that I only have seen on Dransfeld buckles until now. The obverse side shows also many commonalities with the Dransfeld buckle.
I hold a Dransfeld Heer in rather the same condition, but I have unfortunately no pics at the moment. I will post them later for comparison, so you can see what I mean.
Regards,
Guido

Yes..Guido, that had also been my first thought..it must be a Dransfeld Buckle..maybe that Schmidt bought buckles from Dransfeld and Mr. Schmidt was a kind of retailer not a maker...
I've a lot of this buckles in my collection. unfortunately unmarked and without a leather-tab but I'm sure that are buckles made by Dransfeld with the typically backside and the two strokes between the words Gott and Mit.
