    AH mystery buckle

    Hello all,
I was watching a documentary called "The Color of War" and a brief color film of Adolf H. appeared. He was wearing his brown jacket and a mysterious belt with an oval gold buckle (looked like a forestry-type buckle) and a silver brocade with two grey(?) stripes. There were some Wehrmacht generals behind him with the usual army brocades with obviously green stripes and silver buckles. The film was short and not too clear.
    Any ideas?
PS - what is an NSDAP brocade and buckle worth these days?
    Regards,
    Kevin

    Hi,

I think I saw the same (very short) clip on a German TV production on the Third Reich in 1995. The note I made at the time directly during the programme says "oval (?) gold buckle on a silver brocade with two gold stripes".
This would indicate a brocade like that illustrated by Angolia, p. 636 at the bottom, which the author attributes to AH's adjutant, Wilhelm Brückner. This attribution rests on some period photographs of Brückner's (seemingly all black and white, however). While not the sort of hard evidence looked for in a court of law, on a gut feeling I would say we have a fairly good "probable". It would certainly not be out of character for AH's adjutant to wear the same special pattern of brocade that the AH himself wore .

The clip I saw was too short, and AH not visible clearly enough to say for certain. Maybe someone has taped the programme you refer to so it would be possible to look at "stills"?

    Regards,

    Schlepp
