    Railroad & HJ Buckles

I picked these buckles up locally. What does everyone think? They both appear to be made by Assman. The first one is a railroad buckle I think. Does anyone have anymore details on this piece? I don't see them much. What is is specifically?

Here's the rear. It appears to be all there.

A close up of the maker mark.

The next one is a HJ buckle, also marked by Assman. Is this one good? What are the other marks about?

A better shot of the maker mark. Thanks for looking.

Two perfectly fine buckles by Assmann.

The Railway Leaders is not my forte and perhaps someone else will chip in about the information that you require.

The nickle silver HJ, although a little dog eared is fine. A well documented and over the top series of markings. Here to include 2 sets of the Assmann logo, together with the ubiquitous GES. GESCH. and finally, the first series RZM number for this company. Not a rare buckle, although an oddity and sought after due to the combination of markings.

              Regards,

              David

Thanks for that info. I found this along with some other items at a local antique store. Got it along with among other things a Costal Artillery badge that I'm told is rare due to it's maker mark. I wonder where they came from. The Railway buckle was bought at the same place but at a different time. I'm not familiar with the workings of buckle collecting but would like to find out more.

                    Railroad buckle

I understand that the railroad (Deutsche Reichsbahn) buckles like yours were worn by all ranks in the service of the RBD, so it's an officer's "style" buckle but was not worn exclusively by officers. Also shouldn't be confused with the much scarcer Bahnschutz Polizei officer's buckle.

Thank you. Are these railroad buckles hard to find?
