Odd S.S. Buckle

I picked up this aluminum buckle as a walk-in at a show today. I have seen line drawings of these, but I have never seen one (beside the very fake steel ones) There was enough age & wear to it and of course the denazification, that made me think it might have a chance. It looks like part of a 'dress belt' has 'melted' into the backside.

Did this style exist? It has no markings at it would certainly have been pre-RZM.

A quite remarkable SS buckle by any persons definition. In my opinion, one of the most rare and desirable, which stands shoulder to shoulder with the nickle silver SS that displays a mobile swastika. The strong indication by the catch device that it was produced by Assmann, although I am uneasy to regard this buckle as the final pattern SS. I do not think that this buckle by the aluminium fabrication would have been produced in the mid 1940's. Perhaps the buckle was a suggested pre war design.

The rub is to whether the buckle was actually sanctioned, issued and worn.

The buckle shown is obviously distressed and I wonder if it was originally secured as a mint and unissued example and then post 1945, de nazified and then worn as a pure device to hold some oiks trousers up.

I think that the buckle is so important, rare and valuable, that perhaps considerations should be given to having this gem sympathetically restored by a professional jeweller.

Finally you are accepting the nickel silver mobile swastika as original !!
Can I ask what made you change your mind since yet not too long ago you were claiming it was probably a fantasy piece ??

The actual forum moderator, Marc Verstraete, owns the die which was used to stamp this Assmann prototype. This die was pictured in the latest Angolia book. If one pays attention to what is written on this die he / she will be able to set a positive time frame (circa end 1936 / early 1937) for the manufacture of those prototypes.

Since we know your habit to clean / polish all your buckles beyond the point of no return I should not be surprised to read this sentence. But recommending such behavior is totally insane, especially on such rare specimen! Please forgive my rude language / attitude but destroying on purpose the minimal history was kind to leave us for research is absolutely non sense! Once destroyed any clue is definitively gone! And God knows the long road to strong evidence has manytime started with a little detail or clue! So PLEASE DO NOT ALTER THIS BUCKLE !!!

Amazing!!!!!!!!!!! I saw the front and dismissed it right away in my mind having seen so many fakes of this design, then I saw the catch..I stopped breathing for a second!!! I knew instantly it was real, and beyond rare!!! what a beautiful piece, and this goes to show that beautiful and rare pieces still exist in hiding waiting to be found!!! thank you for sharing this, I am sure it will be a long time if ever i see another Chad

Coincidence or Conspiracy ?

Believe it or not, I recently located a very similar SS buckle (also de-nazified) in the collection of an acquaintance and I have been negotiating with him for its' acquisition. Maybe I had better speed up the conclusion before he finds this thread and hikes the price on me!

What is the general consensus on this buckle? Also a good & rare one? Thanks in advance for any input.
