                      Guido,

Super buckle! You have great taste in buckles. Dan

                      David,

UNBELIEVABLE... What an amazing collection of FAD represented buckles. Each with there own peculiarity that makes them a really special piece of history.

To your point about the AAD (Anhalt Arbeitsdienst), I do not have period photos of these buckles in wear however your second buckle shown with the upright stalks of wheat is the classic AAD buckle, per the writings.

Again, thank you for sharing your wonderful selection of the FAD and the AAD buckles.

                      Let's see more.

                      Dan

Dan - do you recall that recently aborted thread in connection with mistakes and errors within buckle reference publications. I wonder if this "AAD" buckle falls into the same urban myth category of white metal SA's being NSKK and pebbled metal SA's being NSFK. I was told on good authority that the buckle in question was AAD, however I wonder if it is merely a variation FAD. It would be interesting to see if anyone could shed some light on this organisation.

Ric - your comments are appreciated.

Gary - a messy and amateurish design in my opinion, although still, an interesting buckle. I am sure that this one has been discussed within the forum before and specifically, regarding the fakes. The roundels to the fakes are in my opinion, first class. The potentially worrying scenario of a fake roundel being taken off the fake brass box, being then distressed and finally, carefully applied to an original brass box. Again, the detail on the fake roundel is superb.

                            Regards,

                            David

                              David,

I wholeheartedly agree with your comments on urban myths, and thank you for not tiring to make this point. The voice of sanity is coming through!

On the AAD buckle, I have no evidence pro or contra. It seems just possible that this organisation, although of one of the tiniest German states, might have prescribed a special buckle. Whether it was actually in widespread use by AAD men is another question altogether. I do, however, remember a manufacturer's ad reproduced in the Baldwin book stating that there was no "official" FAD buckle, and anyone could buy and wear any design on the market.

                              Regards,
                              Karl
