The paint on a EM/NCO buckle in North Afrtica was it the standard green or was a different shade used for that theater ?

Hi Bill,

I think it is safe to say that the paint colors varied from manufacter to manufacter or whatever might of been available if the buckle was hand painted. Here's a couple different shades of color of Tropical buckles. Hope this helps a little.

From my experience it all comes down to manufacturer and period of issue. I've owned at least a dozen true Afrika campaign belts/buckles (Heer/Luft) and noted that colours can be quite varied.
Here are some I've looked after.

I've found one simply marked 41 that is noticably dark grey/green.
