Another early, early, SS nickle silver buckle

This is another of my recent veteran purchased acquisitions. I have done some research here on the forum and have learned that these nickle silver SS buckles are quite early (which I assumed), and that no maker has yet been found for them.

Perhaps these pictures will help spark more interest in them. It is known that a couple of these have been ground dug in Russia and show the ravages of having been in the ground for so long, and there is another in equal condition as this one which is owned by another forum member.

Are there any more out there?

The eagles head is what I like the most about this style buckle too. Very dramatic and lifelike with a lot of detail and character.

Are there any more out there?

Still a quite scarce buckle but no longer one I could call a very rare buckle based on the number I have by now recorded in collections. Whoever was the maker he did manufacture more than just a few. There is even two different variants, one with this catch and one with another kind (both are visible in the forum if I recall correctly).

I read here on the forum that these may have been produced between 1931 and 1934.

Would you concure with this assumption, given the construction technique etc.?

Also, do you have an approximate number of how many of these you have seen all together?

To your first question, indeed between 1931 and (most probably) 1934. The first date is granted since it could not have been produced before the SS motto was pronunced. It is also likely no later than 1934/35 since the RZM was enforcing some "standardization" by then (at least as producing was concerned). Also I do not know a single one with RZM marking. To my guess, those buckles were made between 1931 and January 1933, not later.

Number I recorded? Over than 20 by now.

For some this number could appear very low but it is not. We have to realize it is an indicator rather than a true reflect about how many are around. If one is able to record over 20 in hands of dedicated buckles collectors, it means there is many others out there. Early SS buckles made by local firms are not so easy to find with some recorded at only one or two example known in collectors hands. This is why high numbers in the lower's field are making a difference in the rarity scale. But we cannot compare those numbers to an Overhoff production or later made SS buckles.
