    A "four tab" SA

I wonder if anyone has ever seen one of these fellows before.

An SA with the roundel attached by four tabs !

The buckle appears in at least two of the well known reference works, although a peculiar buckle my many aspects.

    Any ideas or thoughts ?

    Regards,

    David

A buckle having been referred to as NSDAP rather than SA and also, with "horizontal wings" - which they are decidedly not.

      Issue buckle ?

      Sample buckle ?

      Any comments appreciated.

      Regards,

      David

I have had several army/luft/polce/rad buckles with the 4 tabs, I suppose an SA one makes sense, I would think just a manufaturer variant.

as for the designation "NSDAP" I think the SA was officially reffered to as "SA der NSDAP" so more just a question of sematics, as the NSDAP was certainly the parent organization. As for the "horizontal wing" I suppose that just reffers to the larger wings, obvioulsy not as horizontal as an SS but spread out more than many ither SA buckles you see.

The lack of evidence of any use suprises me (no scratches by the catch area), and I don't like the way the catch axle doesn't appear peened on the bottom

        an interesting one for sure.

Many thanks for your comments and I tend to agree with all that you have said. No reason at all as to why there should not be a tabbed roundel SA. As you say, the tabbed roundel is regularly seen on other military, political and civil buckles. Not even a "new" method of affixing as Thomas Reid suggests that the "four tab" was devised by Wimmer of Leipzig in 1914.
