    Ben,

all the SA-Wehrmannschaften buckles with die defect (visible on back side) are original ! All the fake ones, since they are molded by an original one, are without it : molding process is not able to reproduce the same sign.
About this point may be there's still some confusion.....

    Regards

    Ric

That's fine , in such case you have to rectify the comment to the first pic by Marc : it's an original one.

Let me add a little spice to this thread. Here are questions to which I hope can be argued.

              1) Are we to believe that all original Wehrmannschaften buckles have these defects? There is a number that has been thrown out on how many of these buckles were produced, 30K I believe. I am one to believe that the defect is absolute on the original but more inclined to believe that not all were produced this way. With a puported 30K of these buckles being manufactured, you think that perhaps this would have been caught during a quality check of some sort. I say this because the manufacturer, C. TH. Dicke, was a heavily used and respected firm during this time frame. Also, are there any factoids showing how many buckles can be used per die cast?

              2) Let us assume the defect of the die cast was used during the entire production cycle of Wehrmannschaften buckle. Was the defect visible when produced or did the flaw become exacerbated as time and usage of the buckle went on? Are there photos of this buckle, unissued/mint condition with defect and are there photos of this buckle, unissued/mint condition without defect?
Are there photos of both in used/worn condition?

              This collector is still undecided.

              Dan
