    SA Wehrmannschaft, need opinion!

    Hello guys!

What do you think about this one
SA Wehrmannschaft buckle, is this RZM tag proper for this buckle?? What is approximate value today, for a buckle in such condition?

    Hacht!

If original on a dealers site you expect to pay between $550 - $700 easily IMO it looks ok, but get other opinions I am not 100% (having a second look, could be a bit bright for an original)

If you look at this past thread it shows an original I was going to buy, you can use it for comparison

          SA Wehrmannschaft

I don't want to comment whether this thing is origianal or fake because I honestly don't know, but I would just like to make an observation.

IMO these buckles are suppose to be rare yet there seem to be so many of them in MINT condition with RZM tags. Why?

I also think these are faked in aluminum and in steel and if I'm correct the aluminum fakes are very convincing?

This buckle has been around for many years, way before the fakes of the one piece aluminum buckles(which by the way evryone said the fakers could never duplicate) Most of them were and are still found in mint condition and many had the RZM tags attached. The paint on these buckles is somewhat unique in that is has an almost frosted appearence until it gets worn off from handeling. There are fakes out there, very good ones . The paint is different and there is a flaw if my memory serves me in the top of right wing. Srangely enough this is a really beautiful buckle that no one wants to pay any money for. You very seldom see them selling for more than $400 and they often go begging at that price. IMO,one of the reasons for this I believe, is there is no uniform for this organization.

I have owned a worn buckle for quite a few years now,and have always kept an eye out for them on sites and at arms fairs and in the last four years i had only seen two others for sale .Until about 3 months ago then all of a sudden i have seen two on different dealers websites and one on a dealers stall. Now i am not saying that they are good or bad .Is this just coincedence or are we looking at a new batch from somewhere.
                  regards gaz

The Wehrmannschaften buckle is no doubt a beautiful but maligned buckle. The use of this buckle was very short lived, only one year, so the manufacturer (C.TH. Dicke) had an excess supply when the contract ended; hence the reason, as Bill pointed out, there are many unissued mint buckles of this type out there. Bill's memory does serve him correctly in that the fake that was identified and discussed within this forum and others had a flaw in the right wing and was easily identifiable.
Why are we seeing more Wehrmannschaften buckles of late? Like anything else, people who have had them in their collection for some time now, see them on a Dealer site and at the price being offered and they want a piece of that pie. What drives the cost of buckle is the amount you are willing to buy it for; bottom line. Also, just because a couple dealer sites are offering this buckle at those high end prices does not mean they are selling them at that price. I agree with Bill that $400 is the ceiling at best on this buckle.

                    My $.02 worth.

By the way Marc's post is still topical since no update is required (at least by myself).

                      Regards

To help Rics post I have got four pics of different buckles, the one in question here, two from Marcs thread and an original I nearly bought, I would put all four together with photo shop but I am at work. All can now compare for them selves. Firstly the one in question from this thread
