Perhaps a slight self contradiction to state "early period" as in theory, this buckle was introduced in 1933.
I suspect though that the buckle was introduced and worn earlier than this declared year, in view of some, clearly indicating a "cottage industry" manufacture from Imperial and/or early Weimar parts.
Here is a small selection of "two piece" DJ's with various Rune affixing devices, ranging from the perfectly logical to the worryingly bizarre.
Also the inclusion on some of the RZM mark, which of course "dates" the buckle.
Any comments and to include that/those relating to the integrity of any of these buckles, greatly appreciated.
More to add ?

David
