Clearly in studying the pics it appears that there is over-spray onto the leather tab which obviously eliminates the brushed on theory. The paint looks very new for being 60 years old. IMO

sorry for wrong word - by BRUSH I mean spray (like for painting vehicles with compressor etc..) - I guess I got suggested too much with photoshop term...

lol.......my bad, not yours! I do however agree that it would have been a VERY fine spray application if period done. It looks just like a modelers airbrush pattern.

IMO I like the camo on the buckle very much and have no problems with it. I have 25 years in the spray painting and painting industry and what I can tell you In my profesional oppinion is that this buckle was definately never airbrushed (commonly done in faking camo paint jobs on helmets etr) the heavyness in the overspray tells me this was done with a conventional spray gun very like a suction or gravity type conventional spray gun.. and looks but I cant be 100% sure very like a small suctionfed pressure pot type gun would of been used. With this type of set up it would be very easy to get that band of colour sprayed down to that width if somebody wanted to. Remember most german tanks and a lot of the larger half tracks had built in compressors and I have seen period photo's where they have used both a small pressure pot and a hopper fed gun for there camo schemes in the field which are both capable of fine camo lines.

On top of that we know they sprayed gas cans, bino cases and all types of personal equipment carried so why not a buckle we know they hand painted trop- buckles. Lets face it they were the masters of both camo and styal...

And to me this has a real fj 6 camo look about it. And as far as ware goes there are many camo helmets in much the same condition if not even better. and I agree with Bob it has age and patina in the paint.
