    Police Buckle

    Hello All,

This is a police buckle of a good fellow collector from me.
He think the buckle is a fake. But this is not my opinion.
I think this buckle is original and from the maker Dransfeld & Co.
I have seen also Heer and Luftwaffe buckles with the same indistinct reverse side from Dransfeld. Actually there is a thread about a Luftwaffe buckle with the same features.

What do you think? Is this buckle original?

    Regards,
    Guido

        Guido,

you are indeed right : that buckle is original

The indistinct reverse is a feature of Dransfeld & Co manufacture.

          Thanks for your reply, Ric
I think this will be a nice information for my fellow.

I still ask myself how Dransfeld have produced their buckles?

          Regards,
          Guido

Probably the lack of details on the back side (in many different buckles), was an option of the Dransfeld Firma :

to save money using a male die not so detailed like the female one.
            Of course it's my assumption...

              Hello Guido,

I agree with Ric on your friend's buckle. It certainly looks original to me. Every Dransfeld buckle I have encountered has had the smooth, melted wax looking reverse appearance and if I ever saw a sharp or crisp reverse to a Dransfeld buckle, I might worry. Here is another Dransfeld buckle, this time for RAD. Exactly the same reverse as the Police buckle.

              Nice buckle your friend has!

Thanks Gary for your kind words, my friend is quite happy now to hold not a copy in his hands.

@Ric: This interesting question was discussed several times before in this forum. Your assumption is one direction of thinking and repesented also the opinion of other forum members.
From my point of view, I would say that the buckles were reinforced with liquid metal. My assumption based on two points: The surface of the reverse side is quite uneven (how Gary says: '...smooth, melted wax looking reverse appearance'....). The second one is, that details like the swastika, the lettering raise very hard, so maybe the manufacturer has had to enhance the thickness of the material in the wasted zones. But I don't know really if the processing of aluminium works on that way.

                    Regards,
                    Guido

Hello Guido, I have enclosed a picture of Water Police buckle by D & C, if you look at the similarities that will also give you some support that the buckle you show is original
