    Buckle dimensions

    Hello,
this is my first post on this forum. So please bear with me.
I'm searching for my Grandfather's grave. He fell on the Eastern front early in 1943, and no one knows where he is burried. I have a photo of the grave, and in the background of the photo there is a group of houses. I'm trying to calculate the distance between the houses and the grave. For that I need to measure an object of known size on the photo. The photo can bee seen at the following link:
    http://www.feldgrau.net/phpBB2/viewt...39098f2baad5ce
The are are several items on the photo for which experts should be able to give me exact dimensions:
    1) Belt buckle
    2) Dagger
    3) Helmet
    4) Distance between buttons on the uniform
    5) Maybe the standard length of the horizontal portion of the cross
The larger the known object the more accurate the calculation will be (i.e. cross size prefered over buckle size).
If anyone on this forum could help me with this information it would be greatly appreciated. I'd prefer the measurements in metric units, because the mathematics involved are somewhat complex.
Lastly, does anyone know what the numbers/letters on the vertical portion of the cross signify?
    Thank you,
    Gefr
