    Luftschutz aluminum

Anyone noticed a rash of rare aluminum Luftschutz (winged swastika) buckles appearing recently on a certain auction site? A rash of anything rare is cause for worry, I think. Another Czech fake?

    Kevin,

I could'nt agree more. What site are they on. I have never seen a fake Luftschutz as yet. Are they in steel or aluminum. Given what they have produced recently i.e. ORG. TODT in steel and an almost perfect copy nothing would surprise me.

      Hello Kevin & Bill,

yes, the aluminium winged Luftschutz buckles were faked. I saw it the first time 7-8 months in a German auction.

The fake looks not really nice. Dark aluminium, not like a genuine stamped item. The catch was close to the genuine, but not very well soldered(welded?).

This means of course nothing. The fakers 'learned' a lot regard SS fakes, why should they not use it for other buckles!
I'm sure it is easier to fake a Luftschutz buckle, because not much collector's were specialised in this topic.

        Hi everybody,

Sorry I can't follow, which buckle are you talking about? The Sicherheits-Hilfsdienst (SHD) with wings spreading out from a central swastika with the word "Luftschutz" underneath? These shouldn't be in alu at all, or should they?

Or do you mean the ones with an eagle in laurel wreath?

        Did I miss anything?

        Greetings, Schlepp

          Schlepp,

Yes, these buckles were produced in aluminum. the early ones. I have one and it is one piece stamped with a brazed on catch.

            Hello Schlepp and all,
For more information on the Luftschutz buckles go to the tread “ RLB buckles, a overview” You will see the original spread wing buckles in Aluminium.
As for the new fakes, I have not seen them yet, and would be interested to see the site where they are proposed.
