    Double maker mark

I am in receipt of a LLuftwaffe 1st pattern "Droop Tail" buckle. The oddity is that there is double maker mark from Richard Sieper and Sohne. It is the RSL diamond mark. Has anyone ever encountered this?

Marc or David, your comments would be appreciated on this double stamped maker. I have not come across this before so I am curious to see if anyone else has.

Sieper marked some of their buckles in the mid 30's that way. I had once an RAD EM buckle with three "RSL" symbols (one was under the prog bar).

I've seen it on very early Heer buckles as well, but they are not common.
        Hope this helps..

            Chad / Wickie,

Thanks for your comments and validation . I did check under the bar but there are no other marks. The buckle is in excellent condition, other than the wear to the high points, and adds nicely to collection.

My apologies for making a late contribution, although it would appear that others have allayed any potential fears that you may have had about this super and quite unusual LW buckle.

Similar to Christian, I have seen other buckles displaying multiple early Sieper logos and in fact, it can be like "hunting the thimble" sometimes. The company often including the diamond logo under the pin shroud ! Their aluminium Postschutz of course being the classic example of this idiosyncrasy.

                Super buckle !

                Regards,

                David

                  Nate / David -

Thank you both for your kind words and praise. This buckle basically fell into my lap. The irony of collecting/searching for specific buckles is that you sometimes find a gem when you least expect it! The analogy I use is, "even a blind pig finds an acorn every now and then".

                  Cheers - KC
