The buckle is quite original, albeit a little "tired".

These buckles currently command extremely high prices on the various dealers sites (Europe and US) and even more so when displaying the "crank" catch.

Certainly DLV or early Wehrmacht-Luftwaffe, however not particularly comfortable toward labelling this buckle as RLB.

          Regards,

          David

I take it, that it isn't always a delight for the experienced members answer to the question "good or bad?". On that score: Many Thanks for your reply!

Is it possible to encircle a maker of this buckle? With a search at this forum, I couldn't achieve a result. Maybe impossilble without a tab or a maker mark.

            Regards,

            Guido

              DLV/RLB with crank catch

              Guido,

This is an example of the DLV NCO buckle (Fliegerschaft). This also comes in another version with a black swastika. The notched hook bar itself seems somewhat thicker than those I have encountered and more rounded but do not have enough information on varients.

I agree with David that this is not an RLB buckle.

Surely by merely stating that a buckle is "good or bad", is an over simplification and of course, it is all relative. I for one prefer correspondence within the forum to have a little "meat on the bone", as it benefits us all. A good buckle for one, is a bad buckle for others and the recently posted "excavated" SS Leaders by Karl is a good example. I know that there are some who adore this condition, although I think that they are neither use or ornament. The subjective assessment of "good or bad" again.

Anyway and if you prefer, your buckle is "good".

The crank catch was once attributed to Assmann and Assmann only, although this is not the case and other manufacturers utilised this peculiar device. It must be said though that the angular crank catch is a reasonably good and again, not 100% indicator, for an Assmann buckle.

Attached is a straight wing DLV/Luftwaffe buckle and again, with a crank catch fitting.

                Regards,

                David

                    Hello,

the crank catch is the basic approach to find out a maker for me too. Like from KC1 already mentioned, I think the the crank catch bar in my case is somewhat thick and shows rounded off edges.
Maybe it is imagineably, that every maker manufacture his own type of catch. Similar to the described attributes looks a crank catch attachment on a Springer-LW-buckle shown in an old thread:

Perhaps this is a crazy idea.

David: I will try to verbalize my questions precise in the future.

                    Regards,

                    Guido
