A couple of years ago in Germany, a then friend gave me what he said was his grandfather's buckle--the name was Weller. I met the old guy, but my German is pretty terrible. Now, the question, I have seen some of the East German fakes, and I am wondering, despite this one being a gift, is there a problem with it. Some folks I showed it to have said it is good, others a fake...needless to say I resisted it knowing where it came from (but again, I value stories as much as a doughnut at Krispy Kreme, thoughts?)

I don't know the reason of your friend's fanciful story , anyway it's not true :
your buckle is a well known fake made in East Europe
