I started a thread a couple of months ago, but have been out of pocket. A number of these buckles turned up recently from folks in the Sudetenland. Allegedly dug. The buckle has an dull aluminum finish, and brazed tongue, like the Czech 1938 Army buckles. Are these original FS buckles, or some Eastern European fabrication?

I have never as yet, seen and "in the flesh", the fake "Sudeten - Freiwilliger Schutzdienst" buckle, although I have been told that they exist. No reason to doubt this of course.
For what in theory should be a madly rare buckle, there would appear to be quite a few of these FS buckles in circulation and for sale at the moment.
Ones that I have seen within private collections and toward which I have always assumed are original, consistently display the same features of the buckle shown here.
- earless and dimple effect (obverse) box
- brazed on catch
- remarkably thin pin, with a widely spaced and slightly curved, directly brazed to pin, claw arrangement
What is the metal of the buckle shown here and also, has it been subject to acid cleaning ?

Thank you for the reply. The story went (and as with most the story is worth a doughnut at Krispy Kreme--I believe very little these days)...that a crate of these buckles were dug in the Czech Republic, and that they were cleaned, and some repaired. What I can tell you, is I saw one that still had the patina, and uncleaned from the guy I got these from..a dealer from Czech Republic. The buckle appears to be of an aluminum or similar alloy. The brazing on all of these pieces looks period. I have the same concern you do. I ran one on ebay a couple of months back, trying to ellicit some info, but no luck. I have no idea what they should even be going for, if I become convinced that they are legit.Comment
