    R.S. & S. Police Buckle

I don't collect Police items but this caught my eye today. I picked it up at the JAG show in Louisville, KY!! Buckle is marked R.S.&S for "Richard Sieper & Sohne, Ludenscheid . Leather tongue matches and is dated 1936. It appears the police officer wrote his name on the leather. You will find the "diamond" RS&S logo on the backside. An example of this buckle can be found in Angolia's "Belt Buckles & Brocades", page 406. What is the extra leather on the tongue for? I haven't seen this feature on any other buckle?? This buckle displays nicely beside my Army R.S&S!!

It look like it have been gold buckle. If it is gold so it is water police buckle. I have seen similar leather tongue but also as you haven't idea what it was for ?? you should ask for it in buckle forum.

                Excellent SchuPo buckle by Sieper.

If you search this forum, you will find quite a lot of detailed information about the "leather tongue" by past threads.

The tongue on your buckle has the distinct "wing" design and so typical for Police buckles. Essentially, the wings of the tongue, protecting the tunic from chafing when in wear.

Great to see the Sieper "double" marking though.

Attached is a Postschutz by Sieper, with a traditional configuration leather tongue, although the "double" marking.

                Regards,

                David

Nice buckle David!! They don't come any better!!
Thanks for the information as well.
It's interesting to note that the diamond RS & S logo is positioned differently on my Army buckle. On the Police, the logo is in "top right" corner. On the army its found on the bottom right. I'm sure its just a manufacturing change. Army buckle is dated a year later, 1937!!
Is the buckle for regular Police or Water Police?

One of the other forum members picked up on the point as to whether your buckle was actually "Waterways/Canals" related.

Perhaps the slightly golden and attractive hue has been created by the light "temperature", i.e. the digital camera not fully compensating for a domestic light bulb source.

I thought that the buckle was "white" aluminium and as such, SchuPo rather than Waterways or Canal (or Traffic Police ??).

                              Regards,

                              David
