          Hallo Wade,

the HJ buckle posted is not original, by the same faker you may find :

SS, Reichsbahn, DRK (Red Cross), NPEA (Studentenbund), WH, ecc.

          Best

            HJ buckle question

I am a bit concerned, I purchased a buckle from one of the big dealers, who I do not want to mention, and the buckle looks much like this one.
How do you tell that the buckle is not from the era that it is suposed to be?
I had posted it on another forum several months ago and got a thumbs up.
Any pointers as to what to look for?

              Hallo,

before I give my answer, could you post pics of your supposed similar buckle ?
BTW you may see that kind of fake in Angolia's book (reproductions chapter)

I agree with what Chad and Ric have already confirmed.

                A fake HJ.

As Ric mentioned, this HJ buckle belongs to a large family of "similar" style fakes and attached is a sample photo merge.

Apart from the poor detail, the buckles can be easily recognised by the peculiar ears to the box (steel and brass) and the very narrow and distinct, spot welded (steel only) bridge catch.

                Regards,

                David

I don't like the look of this one either. The catch and the prongs don't look right and the overall lack of detail is what concerns me. It would be nice to see your buckle. If you look at the catch on each buckle in David's pics you can see that the top section that is attached to the buckle has a "dot" on it....that's a dead giveaway IMO....and the prongs are very pointy!

Nice reference picture david! (If even if there are more variations of the same type of manifacture); if a member of the forum who after this picture still buy one of these buckles need to trade colecting for ping-pong...
