                Simon,

it's a well known fake made in East Europe, but with a convincing tropical paint. You may compare it with the same fake with standard blue painting and you'll notice the same features : prongs, ears, marking, die's details, ecc.

                  Thanks

This buckle was for sale on the french ebay one year ago.
Knowing it was a fake, I tried to buy it cause I found the paint and aging very convincing.
I had to give up cause the price rose to the price of an original one.
A buckle like that one was the base to built a scary fake for the buckle non specialist...

Is he saying the above pictured buckle is original with original paint?

Hi Guys, sorry for responding so late to this tread, I was out of the country.
Both above buckles are fakes. Joss might have seen the buckle in one of the my very, very old posts… I know I posted this buckle years ago but cannot find it back.
The "two part" tropical is an old fake. Not many where made, if fact, they are de-nazified buckles of which the inset was cut out and replaced by a neutral inset or an edelweiss. A dealer bought a bunch of these and took of the neutral inset. Replaced them by a fake LW inset that he had made. Painted the whole thing tropical and added a fake tab. Whoever has this tab in his hands will see it is much to thin, not the nice heavy tab of a real buckle. I almost fooled myself with one of these buckles about 5/6 years ago.
As I said, not many are around, it was an artisan production and sold drop-wise by the dealer; Behind the table, as a secret super piece. For a expensive but still attractive price… But the paint was still fresh and smelling…
