Dr.F & Co. Luft trop buckle help

    Hi Guys,
Got this today and had a bad feeling when I saw it. Can I just get a confirm that this is a bad buckle?

    Thanks,

    Gerard

It's a very pretty fake! The supposed maker name is misspelled, but is a nice looking fake to be sure.

          Thanks Willi and Gene,
It wasn't a one-looker for me, I just got a bad feeling. Thanks for confirming.

Note the 2-piece construction of the buckle. I guess someone thought they could make a better copy by stamping the eagle area separately.

Similiar to the early private purchase Luft buckles.

I thought I remember such buckles with tabs being sold not long ago (as repos) on the "SOLDAT" website. I didn't know repo tabs were being added to buckles until then.

The biggest giveaway on this buckle is the tabs that connect the two pieces together...you'd never see that kind of garbage on real pieces....

I have seen a beltbuckle like this in the year 2000/2001 or something..
It was in a collection of a serious collector who had more special belt buckles, some with original factory tags still on them..
So,I don't know what to think...,I'd like to know more about this one first before I'd give it a thumbs down.
I think I still have the pics somewhere.

                  Jos.

Jos, please do not ever think that tropical buckles, which were all wartime productions of stamped steel, were ever made in two piece designs.
                    Regards,

                      John et all,
Might even be a proto type which never made it..or something.. ?..
With the knowledge I've this moment I'd say it's a unique buckle, but maybe I missed new information,I'm not much in buckles and I can't prove this one right, but it is based on the fact I only saw one/two..
The construction is weird, but I like the quality, prongs etc

I'm telling you because of this :

If they make fake buckles they normally are all over the place,a fake like this would come with a story and slowly we should see more and more, some in blue or whatever color, this is the 2nd in 5 years I see,if not the same one.. !
The one I saw was in a collection of a guy named Xanten, that's all I know about the buckle, but I never saw another till this one.
This guy had some great mint buckles, some tagged, some factory unfinished etc..
I checked for the pics and found them, same buckle ..,pics are dated 2001.
5 years..and only one more on the market ?
Not a fast profit......and waiting another 5 years for selling the next..
Joking..,but I'm curious howmany of these we all saw at least over the last 5 years ..??
I saw 2 or even only 1 in 5 years if this is the buckle I'm talking about.
The 5 years are bothering me,I should've seen more of these over that period if these were fake.
                      SO,it's not the latest fake,of that I'm sure !!
But maybe someone can direct me to a site where these are for sale ?
If fake it should be very easy to find more..,and don't forget Ebay..!
I should've seen at least one more on Ebay, buckles looking like this one should sell in a minute for big bucks IMO,people like to have special things, even if fake.
After a while we should find them weathered, worn etc
No such thing like 1 fake or 2..
I'd like to see moooooore !!
But maybe I missed the whole circus..?

                      Jos.

But Jos, the paint job, the color of the paint, the buckle feature which is painted on this one and not on originals, the leather tab, the stampings on the tab.....all different from tropical mint mint originals.

I agree, but,in my case, proving it wrong is very hard with 1 or 2 around in 5 years..,it needs more for that IMO.
If fake then where are all those other (5 year old) fakes ?
If we had seen a couple more....,but I presume it's your first one too ?
The tab is weird, doesn't match the maker, but many tabs were added postwar..,leaves us the buckle.

                          So,still to me,at least 5 years old and 1 or 2 of a kind..
Now I'll wait for more of these to come/see and hear the story where they are selling these..
They have potention,so,they should be on the market then IMO
To me this is more important than "I never saw one before,so..."..
I'd like to find out what exactly this is/these are.
I'm really curious how much will show up.

                          Jos.
