I can hear the ominous creak of Pandora’s Box opening and why not.

What about this though for a theory and it is only a theory, without any strong supporting information whatsoever.

Perhaps Martin Winter was a distributor of buckles rather than a manufacturer and despite enjoying the privilege of an RZM “approved” status. As such and if the company was selling buckles which were actually made by someone else, perhaps the Reichszeugmeisterei der NSDAP insisted that the buckles must bear the code of the company as the final link in the chain, i.e. Martin Winter.

As such, an RZM M4/24 marked buckle was conveniently modified to RZM M4/2 and in order to comply with any RZM issued regulations. This does however appear to be a very ad hoc arrangement and I really would have thought it was not overly cost effective for Martin Winter.

The only other Winter buckle that I have is a nickle silver DAF-Werkschar.

Yet again, the application of the RZM M4/2 is ad hoc, quite crude and appears hand punched. It is almost as though a non marked buckle has been bought in from goodness knows whom and then, crudely hand punched.
    <o></o>
Does anybody have a RZM M4/2 mark that appears “normal”?
    <o></o>
Also and if anyone cares to search the forum for “Winter”, pass discussions can be seen in connection with various Winter “associated” nickle silver SS buckles.

    Regards,
    <o></o>
