Appears to be a standard PL buckle by Assmann.

It looks as though however and by the reverse detail, that it started life with a gilt finish to the obverse. Now having been carefully removed to show the white aluminium base.

An original one and by pics it seems the scarcer zink made variation with alu keeper.

Thanks for the good news.....but why would someone remove the gilt finish, on the reverse side I can see faint traces of gold near the hook so I have no doubt that it was gold at one time.

I really can't think of why the gold finish would have been removed...but a lot can happen in 60plus years!

Nice buckle nonetheless....
