    Non-SS buckles

    Hello All,
I just finished reading thru the "Favorite Buckle"postings and saw the requests for posting more threads on other buckles. Jp has amassed a ton of info on SS buckles and has put together, I'll call them "articles" where he shares his knowledge freely. Trouble is I don't thing too many of us have done the same with other types of buckles.
So if I may make a suggestion, if you have a question regarding other types post it, it just may start a good discussion. Remember in the search for knowledge there are not any stupid questions.
    If anyone has any question on just basic info, a few years back I added a section called "Buckle Basics" on my web site, it can be viewed at;
    http://pmilitaria2.tripod.com/page2.html

    Hello Paul,

possibly you can help me, to make my big list of questions smaller.
You show on your nice webpage two blue colored Wehrmacht buckles.
You identify them as "Coastal Artillery", as the most authors.
Do you have any information, that this identification is correct? Any contemporary source or something like this?

One of the buckles has a leather tab, is the Kriegsmarine eagle on the tab?

    Thanks in advance

    Christian

P.S. The question is of course not only for Paul!

      Hello Paul,

I visited Your page with great interest. Very nice collection. As a newcomer I would also like to learn more about „non-XX(Germans are not allowed)-buckles“, especially about Heer and Reichswehr.

On Your page I saw a fieldgray steel-Heeres-buckle, dated 1941 from N & H or Noelle & Hueck. I started a thread on possible mint-condition-fakes of this maker some days ago. Maybe You could post pictures of front and back of Your original with maker-mark-detail also in this thread for comparison. I will try to add pictures of a might-be-fake.

        Hello All,

My Friend Paul read in my mind. It is well known my interest is toward SS Buckles, and SS Buckles ONLY (well Yancy I guess we will not share a lot of threads !!). Since it was obvious this Forum was not "SS Buckles" oriented, I asked Marc to be with me. With him, this Forum could have a chance to answer most questions.

But to answer we need questions. If you (as members) are not asking some, how do you want we reply ? If you are not sharing your interest, or showing it (even just only in the addition of photos from your own collection), how do you want we know what to do ?

I know exactly what I am doing, and if there is so many threads (and/or articles) regarding SS Buckles, it is mainly because I wanted to show you what we can do with just a little bit of participation. Marc did the same but he felt alone on this road (so far, none of his threads was on a single SS buckle !!)

At least SS Buckles collectors have something in common: we like to show those buckles, talk about them, get more information since they are expensive, not common, lots of variants and ... widely faked !! So, one post is kind of sure to receive attention (mine at least !)

So, my last opened thread and reply in this one shows some of you could be ready for some action. So, it is time to go ahead and SHOW it !! This Forum is YOUR Forum, do not forget it !! Moderators are nothing without their participating members

        Best Regards to All

          Hi Christian,
I do not have any knowledge that differs from what most authors have written. The one without the leather tab is a RODO made on and has their maker mark, everything I have ever read on these attributes them to the Coastal Artillery.
The other one is a different story, it does not have the KM proof stamp on the tab, the tab is marked with the Julius Kremp stamp and dated 1940, the buckle itself is marked for Kremp with their IKA mark and also dated 40, but it was painted a very dark blue almost black and this was done on top of a field grey finish and painted very well as both the front and back are blue there is no evidence of any paint on the tab. The exact nature of this buckle has always been a mystery to me and I only call it a coastal art. buckle as it fits more in this catagory than any other, although I read somewhere that some late war Heer buckles had a black finish but there was nothing written to say why the author had made such a comment.

          Johannes,
I'm going to scan that buckle a little latter today and will post the pics in your tread.

            Johann,

If JP will be kind enough to post therse pictures for me I have a photo of a mint N&H buckle w/tab which used to be in my collection. I also can show a "Coastal Artillery"? made by "Rodo". There is a lot of conjecture on these buckles. They very well may be CA buckles but they could also be later produced buckles and painted w/ whatwever paint was available.k blue almost black Luft buckle have been attributed to the paratroopers but not sustantiated. Again I think these are just late buckles using darker available paint. They are all dated 1941-42.
If anyone-possibly Marc- has a dark blue CA buckle w/an eagle "M"property mark that is original it would help prove the theory one way or another. One KM buckle that is out there is one that has the property mark stamped on the buckle in front of the catch. Never happened w/originals and it is a fake.

              Hi Bill,

I will post them for you, but maybe you could plan to become an Association member ($20/year) since posting photos for others is tolerated only few times per member. But I will still do it for you this time.

                Thanks for the inputs!
Paul, what ever the blue buckles are used for, your overpainted buckle sounds mystery, and interesting as well.

As for me, I don’t believe the blue buckles are for the coastal artillery. I’m not an expert for Marine uniforms, but I found in a book from B.L. Davis a little description of CA uniforms(except the buckle). He said that the CA wears field grey uniforms with golden buttons.
If he is right, it brings me to one question: why a blue buckle? Field grey would fit to the uniform and golden to the buttons. But blue???

One thing surprise me much more. Nice Kriegsmarine buckles are really hard to find.
Why is the blue one much more common than the golden or field grey(with Marine proof)?
I can’t believe that the CA was the biggest part of the Marine!

If somebody find anything new, please let it me know.

                Regards

                Christian

                      Hello all,

Since I became member of this forum I have tried to start good subjects on buckles other than the SS.
Chinese dragon, LW first mod. Fake versus original, RLB brief overview, TODT,. to name only a few.
I posted many scarce buckles and made many small articles ( WWI and WWII ) the subject almost always die after a couple of reactions.
Like I said before, I will be glad to post on any subject but it is up to the members to continue to post and ask questions!!

                      Marc V.

                        Hello Bill,

thank You very much for Your offer regarding the N & H buckle. I would appreciate the pictures very much. Maybe Jean Pierre or someone else could help. I understand that this forum needs paying members to help running it, and I also think about it. The more people are involved in discussions, the more will become associated members.

I guess it is logical. Photos are big space takers (especially when size is not limited), and everyone knows that more web space cost more.
So either you finance this increase in cost, so you restrict some features to save. Unfortunately talking about belt buckles is a subject where photos are an absolute need. Even moderators are subject to this rule: Marc and I are Association members and we paid for becaming such.
