    Deutsche Reichsbahn

    Hello,

Thought I would share my latest buckle. I got really, really, lucky on this one.

Anyhow, the Deutsche Reichsbahn is by far my favorite buckle, but this one is MINT with a crimped catch which makes it extra special in my book. I personally have never come across a Reichsbahn with a crimped catch and would love to see any others. The scans don't really do it justice and it looks far better in hand. Hope you like and any opinions good or bad are welcome. Thanks

    Regards,
    Steve

      Fantastic buckle.

The DRB in aluminium as rare in any form or condition, however with the elusive crimp catch, even more so.

Do the claws have a slight "kink".

If so, the combination of the claw type and the catch, strongly suggesting that this is an Assmann buckle.

      Regards,

      David

        Hallo Steve,

it's a very nice buckle and indeed scarce.
It's interesting to note as both yours and mine are undoubled die struck in the back side.

Ric and David thanks for the kind words. There is a slight "kink" in the prongs though the scan doesn't show them that well.

I'm just curious I've seen this "crimp catch" on Reichsbahn, HJ, and DAF. Were there any other buckles this type of catch was used on?

Also, for you David, if I remember correctly don't you have an aluminum Reichsbahn with a very odd, yet very rare catch?

Apparently, this super "crimp" style catch was not solely used by Assmann, although I think that F W A u. S were the main proponent. I suppose in theory, any die stamped aluminium buckle and subject to the correct tooling, could be provided with this "crimp" style of catch.

You are right though in suggesting that this style of catch is mainly seen on (Assmann) HJ, DAF-Werkschar and DRB buckles.

            Regards,

            David

p.s. - yes, I still have the "two ball" style catch, DRB buckle.
