    Hi Steve:

    Thanks for clearing that up for me. The buckle looks fine to me. It has nice details and a good honest look. I have never gotten one of these from a vet, but the versions with the eagle facing this way of course are scarce (the WH was going to switch over and some makers jumped the gun...you can even see this on some cloth etc with the heads)...I have also seen the buckles with the heads looking this direction made up with different construction methods...a four pronger comes to mind that I saw recently. I think unless somebody proves the piece is a fake (IE we see a quantity coming out over the next few years) that we can not really say that these are fake, and I would ask Marc how many years ago he has seen this style as I know he collected buckles for a while.

      I think Gary is just concerned that two buckles look identical right down to the stress fractures. Anyhow, the forum member I purchased this buckle from had in his collection for 12+ years before I purchased it. I'm not sure how long Peter has had his buckle in his collection, but there seems to be no doubt they are original buckles.

        I would not worry about identical stress fractures or marks...you see that often on badges by the same maker...IE the same die flaw one pieces done by the same maker...in fact this is something that is looked for on real pieces...I am sure Gary has some legitimate concerns, but if it from a collection dating back at least 12 years I would have no worries as I do not think we had fakes that looked like that back then.

          Hi John,

          I agree with you on same makers construction methods. I never doubted its originality, but I certainly wanted others, besides myself, to speak of its originality. Also, I purchased it from a well respected and knowledgeable forum member that gives me complete peace of mind.

                    I would like to put this issue to rest if possible. These two buckles belong to me. As you can see the ears are not folded over. I also owned a number of SA and DJ 35 and 40 mm buckles without the folded ears. The buckle Steve has was once mine. I acquired it over 12 years ago. I never doubted it's originality then and I don't now. The only thing Gary keeps harping on are the stress fractures. Well I can tell you that this buckle is constructed of very heavy nickel silver. I am not surprised at all to find the type of fracture at the spot this buckle, and also Peter's buckle has. The prongs are classic O&C, the solder points are perfect and the detail on the roundel is crisp and perfect. If Steve would offer me this buckle back I would buy it in a second. I had numerous buckles in my collection that were stone mint. The idea that mint condition should raise a red flag as Gary states is ridiculous. There are many construction points that one has to look at to determine originality. Condition was never one of those.
                    Finally, the fact that this buckle has been shown on two different forums and only one person-Gary- has raised a question as to it originality should say enough. So enough. Nice damn buckle Steve, hold on to it, or give me first refusal.
