I think that the tab is not original to the buckle. The stiching worries me a lot.

Is the maker on the tab the same as the buckle?
I can not see this on the pictures. If it is, well, then I would sey it is original becouse for a faker to find a original tab, with same factory markings, same dates and marine markings would be 999% inposible....

Why whenever I see a GB dated SHD or Wehrmacht buckle, it is always "43" ? Are there any other numbers known ? Is it an abbreviation of the year of make or instead, an in house code ?

What is so special about 1943 for this maker ?

            Regards,

            David

I'm not sure, as I'm not home at the presend time but I think I own a 42 dated one...
Why most are dated 43... I supose the army ordered a large numbers of buckles from that factory in 43. This could be for various reasons, other facory where destroyed, this factory was sheaper, they where faster... just as the military still works today.

The steel LW buckles are also for 80% from one same factory in 41 and 42 wile lots of factories where making them. For the same reasons as above I supose...

how more I look at the above buckle with tab, how more I belive there is no problem with it. The damage on the tab matches perfectly the use on the buckle... the stiches looks strange due to the cleaning and whatever product was put on it.

                    maker mark

                    Hello Marc,

From what I can see, the maker mark and year are unreadable on the leather tab. So it could be easy to put this tab on a KM buckle.
I also think that unit or WH additionnal stamping on a buckle tab is most likely a prewar thing.
Have you got some LW buckle tabs LBA stamped, KM buckle tabs M stamped, Heer or LW buckle tabs unit stamped dated after 1940 ?
                    Thanks

                    Simon

                      Hallo Simon,

although not requested to myself, just to offer my contribution : Noelle & Hueck 1941 (if I remember well).

I'm sure the marking on the tab is readible when having it in hand. Even on the picture I can almost guess it. And like I sayd earlier, the tab, even if it was put on afterwards, is original.
As for the marine marking ( M + eagle) on the tabs of wartime buckles, yes, they are always marked. This is the only way to recognise a green marine buckle as they are the same as the regular WH ones. This is of course only valid for the steel buckles as the gold aluminium buckles for the KM where not longer prodused after 1939.

                            tab

                            Marc,
I think that the tab is original too.

                            Ric,
In fact, this was asked to everyone. Thank you for your pics. Very nice buckle
                            !

What about LBA and unit stamps after 40?

This could be another intresting post, maeby you can respond with this question on a post alreday existing regarding this matter or create another one... this makes it easier to navigate and too look for subjects but you are right, LW unit markings after 1940 are not common. I know a few Reg Goering ones but this is not rtealy LW...
