      Hallo,

original Heer buckle made in 1944/45, wrongly considered KM coastal artillery.

Thanks Ric for your rapid comment on this one.

The colour is very bluegrey, it looks almost like a Luftwaffe buckle. It's nothing green in the colour on this particular buckle so i assumed it had to be something connected with KM coastal artillery. Also older litterature seems to state that this buckle is KM coastal artillery.

I'm very open for new knowledge on this buckle but have to admit that regarding buckles i'm no expert at all

you are indeed right, fortunately collector's knowledge improve more and more in spite of the old litterature : it remains a irreplaceable base but needs updates....

I agree with Ric. This is a Heer buckle and not a KM coastal artillery buckle. Blue/grey Kriegsmarine buckles will always have a tab attached to the buckle with Navy stamp.

            Greetings,

            Frans

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but this is a very good reproduction that has been making its way from overseas. I have handled a couple of these ...the big giveaway is the catch on the back - where it is welded to the buckle there is a raised section instead of it being flush. It's hard to see in the pic but it's there. (hard to explain but I hope I'm doing ok)....anyways...no original buckles do not have that in the bend.
Sorry...these are very convincing but not authentic unfortunately.
You will find Heer buckles in OD, Afrika K and KM (dark blue) examples of this type of buckle. The fakers are getting better and better......dammit!

                Hi Rob,

I do not see anything wrong in Thomassen's buckle : could you explain with close-up of another supposed fake (same type) what are you meaning ?

                Regards

                Ric

Thank you for your qualitative comments on this buckle. As i'm not the owner of this buckle myself, my knowledge on this is rather scarce.

This buckle belongs to a norwegian military officer who, during maintenance work, found it on the attic on a military depot at the present naval base at Horten, Norway some 20-25 years ago. Together with the buckle also a A-frame was found.

Ric is right on this one as an original buckle, and my friend is pleased with the majority of conclusions stating it both as an original buckle and Wehrmacht Heer.

No guys...I still don't think so.....I think Kuligow (another member) will know what I'm trying to explain. I have had two of these posted on another buckle forum and was told they weren't good. Also, bought one from Lakesidetrader - he looked into it and was also told it was a repro...he quickly refunded my money when his buckle expert (don't know who) told him it was a repro.(Paul is a real pro - can't say enough good things) I can't post pics guys but if I can email them to someone who can....then you could see what I mean.

Me again....I gave the pics I have a good look and I still see what I consider the reproduction giveaway on this buckle...but on my pics....it seems more "pronounced" and "obvious".......you would have to see these pics and compare what I mean with your buckle. If the buckle catch is the same....then I'd have to say that it is a reproduction.....Let me know if I can email the pics to anyone.....Thanks gang...

Thanks Ric....pics sent.....give 'em a going over and tell me if your buckle is the same as this one. I edited the catch picture that shows what I meant by the raised part leading from the weld to the upper part of the catch.....

Let me know if we're dealing with the same buckle....good luck! trust me: I don't want you to end up with a repro.....let me know what you think guys...
