    Reichsheer Gold Navy Buckle

Hello all, I have been pondering my small but nice collection and one buckle sticks out to me at this moment in time. People talk about rare and unseen buckles such as the SA Wehrmannschaft etc, I have never seen the Reichsheer Gold Navy Buckle advertised for sale or on dealers websites? (apart from the one I bought) Is it because they are not collectable or not worth having as they had no Swastika. Does anyone else own one of these or have any views on this matter?

    Vielen Danke Kamerade

A rather nice Reichsmarine buckle and I think that there is another "gold" buckle of the type, although with a pebbled box.

Interesting to note that the Reichsmarine (two piece) buckle is now faked.

I personally think that all the Weimar period buckles are highly collectible and I know that there are those who specialise, however whether we like it or not, they will always be overshadowed by the NS period and emblem buckle by popularity and pecuniary values.

      Regards,

      David

I totally agree with you David, but as I was saying to Sven earlier I think there are some very nice good looking & interesting earlier buckles. The Weimar Heer with leather tab is superb as are some of the WW1 buckles. Thats why I collect from all periods, I feel that i would be missing out if I did not!

Hello all and Happy New Year!!
Nice buckle you have there and quite rare, although I think the prongs may have been replaced at some point. All the brass buckles I have seen (not many, I admit) were made completely of brass, prongs and all.
Like you, I collect all eras of buckles but I am especially fond of the Weimar era for the sheer variety. I once thought that limiting myself to collecting buckles only would keep me from spending too much cash on militaria (and avoiding fakes) but the recent drastic escalation in prices and excellent fakes is proving me sadly wrong. I can remember when SS buckles (the usual yardstick for prices) were only about C$50!!! Ah, the good old days.
The Reichswehr buckle came in a number of varieties:
          1. stamped pebbled nickel
          2. pebbled nickel with attached plate
          3. stamped smooth steel
          4. pebbled aluminium with attached plate
          5. stamped smooth or pebbled brass
          6. smaller versions of some of the above
Of course, each manufacturer had slight variations in design.
          Hope this helps,
          Cheers,
          Kevin

              Ben, David and Kevin,

I agree on the rarity of the Weimar period Marine buckles. This whole period is one that is sorely negleted by collectors. I have a fairly extensive collection of Weimar buckles some of which I have shown on the Forum. I have a large number of the Reichsheer buckles including the
              Marine.
I am curious Kevin, you mention a pebbled brass buckle. I have never seen one of these. only the smooth brass types. I do have a nickel-silver buckle one piece that is in gold finish. Have never seen another one like this. I also have two one piece brass Reichsheer Marines one with dated and property marked tab and one w/out tab.If you have the pebbled brass buckle could you show a picture of it? David if you would still be kind enough to post pics for me Let em know. I would greatly appreciate it. Miss your moderating.

Best wishes for a very Happy New Year.
