My New Luft Officer Buckle. Got Belts?

Just got this beauty. How long will I search for a brocade belt to go with it?

hello, hope all has been well since MAX. I dont see the luft brocaddes for sale all that often, I think you will find one maybe at SOS or one of the larger sites like Weitze. Have you checked there? I am interested to see what the others have to say, but I see many more buckle/belt sets than brocades by them selves.... it is a great looking buckle best of luck with your search for the brocade..Chad

Nice buckle Jeff, and I know this came from a vet. I guess he just cut the belt off of it for easier carrying. Even without the belt, this makes a great display in your buckles collection.

          Hi,

Looks like a nice buckle. I'd keep it as it is if I were you. One of the buckle's keepers would need to be sewn to the brocade, so the result would always be a fix-up, albeit using two original components, wouldn't it? Alternatively, there are reproduction brocades being sold, so you could use one of those if all you want is a nice display.

          Regards, Karl

Thanks Karl - I think you are correct. If I keep it, placing it a real belt on it will still make it a "parts" belt.

Did the Luftwaffe ever wear buckles like this on a leather belt like the SS?

Hi Scott, no, not to my knowledge. Luftwaffe Officers just wore a simple open frame buckle on a brown belt.

I know many SS Officers found this design of buckle to be impractical in combat wear as it used to come undone easily. Hence many prefered to wear an Heer Officers style open frame buckle.

                Cheers, Ade.
