    GREEN Heer belt buckle

    Hello all,

I just got this and wanted to know if it is an original or a reproduction. The buckle is painted a green color and marked on the back:

    Dr. F. & Co.
    1940

Please let me know either way. Thank you.

          fake

          Hello,

Oh, that's no big deal, thank you for the update. Is there any real way to tell how this one is a fake? I simply want to know as I could at least learn something from this.

            Hi William,
A couple things that give your buckle away as being a fake are prongs being cut at a sharp 45 degree angle and I believe original Dr. Franke buckles in steel had the underscore below the "r" in "Dr" and its hard to tell but I think your underscore is set of to the right a little. I'm sure other will be able to tell you more

            Regards,
            Steve

              Hello Steve,

If it helps, here is how the underscore is formed. It is directly under the curved part of the "r" and not under the vertical line in the "r"

It is kind of hard to explain, but as you said, off a little to the right. In the photo the red is exactly over the underscore.

Is there any chance that this is an original buckle that has been messed with? Another thing that I noticed that can barely be seen in the image below is that it looks like somebody tried to take a lead pencil over the maker mark. Is this some sort of test that would determine if it were a reproduction by a previous collector?

I believe all who think that it is a reproduction, and I am not questioning that. Also, the buckle is steel as well.

              Thanks.

              Bill

As Schorschi and Steve have so rightly confirmed, this Wehrmacht-Heer buckle is a well documented fake. In addition to what has already been isolated as an indicator that the buckle is a fake, also, is the roundel design. A pure fantasy design as no original buckle has this specific detail and with yours, displaying the infamous "budgerigar headed eagle".

                Regards,

                David

                  Helo,

How would an original Dr. F and Co look?
                  regards

                    A selection of "original" markings.

                      Fine, thanks,

                      And about the eagle,
how should the head look like?

                      Regards
                      Carlos
