David is correct regarding the description of a POST WAR buckle; NOT a fake! It was made by CTD and could be bought in Germany until a few years ago for a few $ (5)… It is bright gold and has a marking under the prong sleeve in the form of the CTD (house) logo.

Here is a photo showing the buckle in wear. Unfortunetly not the best shot!
Note the cap badge, which is as well in use after the war.

Here is an Overhoff sample board from the 70's (?). It seems all items are for any kind of security service.

Marc - a lovely selection of buckles - as always ! I must admit, rather impressed by the two piece item, although quite surprised by the "crank" catch buckle. I was also, quite unaware that there exists a design where the lozenge is a rectangle, as opposed to that with a chamfered corner. Not quite so sure though as to whether the "Berlin" buckle is as rare as you suggest. I know of several and actually, one appeared on a well known German auction site this year. Wonderful buckles though and slightly scary that so many of the post 1945 production pieces are sold as "period".

Christian - great photograph, although those two do not seem to be exactly a barrel of laughs. I agree, not the best detail, however the buckle and the buttons can be easily recognised. The OLC sample board is fascinating, insofar as had it not been for the printed information, the items could have easily been regarded as 1930's. The reverse of the button that I posted is stamped Dicke also and I wonder if it is only the buckles that have a distinct pre 1945 and post 1945 marking ?

Anyway, attached are some images, posted on behalf of Bill (buckle1). Another "crank" type and another "Berlin" buckle (Bewachungsgewerbes des Deutschen Reichseinheitsverband E. V. Berlin), together with more (variation design) buttons.

What is the significance of the "Berlin" buckle ?

                  Regards,

                  David

Nice to see there are more of these buckles with text around. As I said, I believe they are quit scarce as I personally knew only two of them. I see now there are a few more to put on the inventory. Still not a common buckle tough.
The crank catch one is a version I’ve encountered at many accessions, at one poit I recall having at least 3 spares…it was actually in my eyes the more "common" one of this series… I guess it is as always just a matter coincidence. I have seen many such "crack catch "buckles and only two "text" buckles and David never seen a crank catch….

... and a close-up of the buckle. Best I could do, but note the absence of the 'motto'

                                Welcome back Karl !

Excellent photograph and to include fine detail of the buckle.

This chap certainly seems a little happier than the one which Christian so kindly showed us.

                                Regards,

                                David
