Show your Variant shape DJ buckles!

    Hello all
I thought it would be nice to start a new thread and show a new DJ I got in the mail today. DJ buckles have MANY variations and I would be happy to see others share some of their variant shape rune DJ buckles so the whole forum can see the variety of similar yet different DJ buckles that were produced.....Chad

        Super DJ's Chad

I know that I have a weakness towards at times, being a tad pedantic and especially when I have a glass of Laphroaig by my side, although I wonder if we should be labelling these DJ's as "variants".

There are now so many different DJ designs known and seen, that they are almost adopting the same status of the SA's - the differing permutations just keep appearing.

Instead - early DJ's perhaps ? What are your thoughts, although as a specialised DJ/HJ collector, do you still regard them as variants ?

Here are a brace of essentially the "final" pattern rune buckle, although not the usual "box" finish.

        Regards,

        David

                  3 more

Here are 3 more buckles first is a brother sister pair one in black and one standard finish both from the same unnamed manufacturer..this particular unknown manufacturer has a very distinct cut ont he end of the prongs..they are absolutely FLAT! so if anyone can come up with a marked buckle with FLAT end prongs we might be able to put a name to this maker....the third buckle is yet another shape design of the standard DJ buckle ..I pictured it next to a standard DJ buckle for shape comparison..I hope to some more people pull out some DJ's and post some photos! David

I agree in the fact that these are just slight differences by different manufacturers in a time when design controll was not so much of an issue as later . You are right we should call them something other than variants, because this might be interpreted as a different model (deliberate) as opposed to asthetic differences between manufacturers which is what they are...I just used "variant " in an ambiguous way to specify a design other than the most comon found rune design.

David the buckles you posted are great ! that first one really stands out..does the silver finish on the box appear to have once had the same as the rune? Cheers..Chad

Super DJ's Chad as always and the various design permutations set around the very distinct and non compromising Sig Rune, just seem constantly surface of late. Great, as I have always thought that the DJ has in the past, been slightly ignored and under rated.

I suppose that is why I made the slightly facetious remark as to whether we should be regarding them as "variants". Perhaps now is the time that we afforded them the dignity that they deserve - early DJ's !

The 90 degrees cut off claw tips are an interesting observation. I actually have numerous SA's (cue big yawn) with this style of claw and also, miscellaneous buckles to include NSBO. I also have an early and unmarked nickle silver SS (cue even bigger yawn) displaying this type of claw.

Let me know if you would like some images.

In the meantime, two more DJ's with the feature of almost a standing rune and where the rune and buckle box edges, nearly meet.

                          Regards,

                          David
