Here is the second original variant for the Assmann SS EM buckles made in 1940 and WITH marking by the catch.
Made of steel, the marking is also by the catch on this variant.
The catch is also different from the one found on the variant with marking under the post/prongs assembly (Part 1) AND also from the first variant with marking by the catch (Part 2) since its top leg does not go within the eagle's wing but is straight. Please note such obvious difference.
As of today, there is no original known Assmann SS EM buckles made from steel in 1940 (155/40) with marking by the catch (Part 2 and/or 3) painted green from factory. With the other variant (marking under the post/prongs assembly - Part 1)) such buckles are very scarce but they exist and several are in collections, but none is reported for this variant with marking by the catch (Part 2 and/or 3). If you have such buckle, I will kindly ask you to let me know.
There is a last variant for the Assmann SS EM buckles made from steel in 1940, with marking under the post/prongs assembly BUT with a crank catch. It is a green painted buckle and the only example known as of today belongs to Marc Verstraete. Everything is identical to the variant shown in Part 1 except that the catch is of crank variety.
Since this buckle is Marc's property and he let me used it for the SS Buckle Forum only, you can still see it in this Forum but I can't upload it here, except if he wish to do so.
That is all for the steel Assmann SS EM buckles made in 1940. Tomorrow I will start with the aluminum variant, still made in 1940.
