SS belt, what do you think?.

    Gyday all
Thinking of buying this SS belt and buckle. Looks ok to me, but I've been wrong before. Never seen a belt with a brass hook?. If it is real, what would be a fair price?.
    Regards Bruce

Assume that this post is an example of Antipodean humour.

On the very slim chance that it is not - FAKE - and not even a vaguely accurate fake.

            Regards,

            David

No wasn't trying to be funny, but if you find my ignorance humourous then yuk it up on me. Don't know much about these, as you could gather, just wanted to know one way or the other to save some money.
              Thanks, Bruce

Thankyou for the response and which now obviously dignifies your original post.

If I have caused any offence, then please accept my sincere apologies, as no personal offence was intended. There were a few features of your post that put me on guard and actually, I extract no humour whatsoever from any collectors limited knowledge.

Anyway, the SS buckle that you have posted is not only a fake, however a very early and now seldom seen fake. The two obvious points are the (1) claws with shroud pin and (2) catch arrangement, which are quite unlike any original SS enlisted buckle of any period. The obverse design is also unique to the fake.

May I suggest that you avoid this buckle at all costs and also, when you have a moment, have a search through the Forum in connection with the numerous SS posts. You will see that the difference between your proposed buckle and the real thing is quite startling.

                Regards,

                David

The SS buckle is indeed a fake made in Austria in the 1970 by Rudolf Souval the belt is.nt original and the markings are rubbish hope this helps

No worries, apology accepted. Thank you very much for your response. I will leave this one where it is. I did have a quick look at some other threads, but when I could not find anything that looked like this one I thought maybe it was an early type or something. I have a red cross buckle and a HJ buckle in my collection that I have had for many years. I will do a bit of research on them too and see if they are ok or not.
Thanks to you too Paul, for your valuable information.
                    Regards Bruce

Can't comment on the buckle, but the belt is pure fantasy.
