The top left buckle is the oldest; (factory logo marked) it has the brass prongs and prong-sleeve. The assembly is welded together instead of mechanically assembled as on the bottom buckle.

The aluminium buckle is painted olive and has the typical type catch for this production. Other buckles such as DLV and LW also have been observed with this type of aluminium "feet" catch. They are never marked but I strongly believe the same factory makes them all.

All aluminium " orphanage" buckles I have encountered (only a handful in my lifetime as buckle collector) where painted olive or had visible traces of this paint. (Even if this was only possible to see with a loupe)

        Nsfk ??

        Crikey !

This sounds too subjective and speculative to me.

Will continue to log this buckle (nickle silver or aluminium) as NSFK.

        Regards,

        David

          Marc,

the top left buckle appears smaller than the one next to it, do you have the measurements by any chance?
This has been a very interesting discussion, thanks to all for their input.

            Hello,

Paul, The buckles are of approximately the same measurements, 46 m/m wide, but the metal of the aluminium buckle is ticker than the nickel ones and the picture is taken at an angle so it gives the impression one buckle is bigger than the other.

David, categorising all these buckles as NSFK buckles and used only by this organisation is an error as there is no evidence these buckles where designed for the NSFK and there is no evidence the NSFK even used these buckles (See the post from Christian) This is only a speculation from authors in buckle books. On the other hand there are plenty pictures AND regulations that connect these buckles to more than one other organisations (such as the orphanage). I agree to call this buckle the NSFK "model" buckle (until a new reference book changes this wrong denomination), as this is the term we all know but I don’t think this is correct.

Fascinating topic. Does anyone have the value (approximate) of these? I just picked one up out of the woodwork.
