    Dutch SS beltbuckle ??

    hello all

i've got this one for some time now and i always wanted to know if it was an original

i've compared it to the beltbuckle for sale at http://www.ww-2militaria.com/

and every detail is the same only mine is painted and the buckle on this site isn't

i've been talking to a NSB collector and he says it is a Belgian buckle because it says "RECHT EN TROUW" while the dutch should say(according to him) "HOU EN TROUW"

i'm lost right now and hope some experts can help me
the picture isn't very good ,but i'll try to make some good ones assoon as i have a digital camera to take the pics
    thank you for your help

Extrem selten.

            Richard,

The buckle on WW@-Miltaria is a reproduction. If your buckle looks like that it is also bad. These buckles were produced many years ago I believe in the UK and were one type of about 6 that were produced. The original Belgian buckles were produced in a two-piece version and a single stamping with a totally different type of prong bar and catch. I have not looked at the one on Weitze's list so cannot comment on it.
            Hope this helps.

                Hello,

First, I do not see the back of your buckle so I cannot confirm but it looks like a fake.

The pictures below sow the two original variations of this buckle. A third variation might exist made of one piece but it will in any case have the same finish as the two pieces silver painted buckle in the picture.
There is also a officer type of this buckle. (I know one!!)
Belgian made buckles are very characteristic.

As for been a 100% Belgian buckle, I would be very careful by claming this.
I am in the process of making a study on this buckles and have seen more than one picture of DUTCH people wearing this buckle with the wolf angle!!!
There is even a picture of Mussert and other high-ranking men wearing the officer version of this buckle with wolf angel!!!!!
If for the NSB “specialists” this buckle is only Belgian, why do Mussert and his staff where this buckle and motto??????????????????????????????????

There is almost nothing know about those buckles and the information is taken from one of two buckles books that are not 100% correct. No one has really taken the time yet to do some in dept research on those pieces.

I used to see these Flemish repro buckles all the time, some dealers would stick them in the back garden for a few months to age them, but they all looked like the second photo in various states and some painted light grey. There was also a Flemish SS repro belt buckle with oakleaves and the double victory runes in the centre, they were often sold as original (often sold for big money after a bit of the old aging treatment).

..you are right about the repros of these...you always see them, they are always the painted steel kind...I once had one of the zinc ones pictured above and I really regret selling it as it was a US vet bringback. As I recall the solder job was a bit sloppy where they put the catch onto the back of the buckle, John

..what I really want also is one of the buckles with the SS runes on the front!

Can anybody post pictures of the SS belt buckle with the two runes on the front? And, from what country is that one from?

These buckles were from the Flemish General SS, but watch out, as I have said I used to see many of the fake versions. An original one will be very hard to find, I have never seen the genuine artical just the copies. Tip: The repros look simlar to the repro Flemish Wolfhook buckles in construction.

                            Hi John,

I would say buying from vets or families of vets is by far the best way of buying genuine. I knew a good number of ex NSB/Dutch W-SS men because of my Grandfathers involvment and got some very nice 100% genuine items from them. The problem is many of them including my Grandfather are dead now, so there are less vets to buy from all the time.

That buckle you sold will be very hard to replace, I am a real horder and find it very hard to sell anything.

                            Steve
