    A few new DJ buckles

    Hello all...
here are a few DJ buckles which are new to my collection, and I thought I would share...first one is RZM 29 (funke & brunninhause) this buckle appears to have never been finished at the factory..there is absolutely no wear to the catch or to where the prong and sleeve should attached through the buckle...the makers mark is hard to see in the pic, but it is 29 (in a circle) RZM (single ring)

                  Hello Chad

What a super trio of very unusual and very specialised DJ buckles.

                  Wonderful.

Great to see an unfinished DJ and as you suggest, not a damaged buckle as there is no apparent wear on the catch. A pleasant change also to see the rune with the finish as it should be (rather than polished brass !). Who on earth though is "Funke und Bruninghaus" ?

The mark on the second DJ is remarkable and I have never seen the "marriage" of the RZM logo with the first period makers code before. A great over size stamping also and it possibly shows how confused some of the makers were, during the initial period of the RZM control and where an artistic license sometimes prevailed.

The final buckle is a favourite of mine, although I think that this large and sharp angled rune style, is no more and no less than a makers variation of a DJ. The subject having been previously discussed on the Forum at :-

                  Great buckles Chad.

                  Regards,

                  David

Nice DJ buckles Chad ...That's the nice thing about collecting DJ and HJ buckles...There seems to be no end to the different variants available.

                    Regards
                    Gary

                      Chad,

I can only join in with previous comments by saying what a stunning trio, and a heartfelt thank-you for sharing them. On the first one, may I venture to suggest it wasn't completely assembled because it was treated as a reject by the producer as the nickle coating didn't adhere properly to the whole surface of the brass box on the reverse? It sure looks that way as the 'bald' patch surely cannot be explained by wear on this gem. Great finds all of them!!

On the manufacturer, if a seemingly well-grounded theory holds that early RZM numbers were switched to M1/.. in 1935 when the system was finally elaborated, RZM 29 = M1/29 Otto Riedel, Zwickau .

                      Regards, Karl

Hello all, thank you for the kind words on these buckles..I based the manufacturer of the rzm 29 buckle from the makers lists in the back of Nash' book on page 497 listing Funke and Brununghause as the most likely maker of RZM 29 based on a M5 code . Karl thanks for the thoughts on the reject theory, good idea, never thought of the possibility..thanks..CHad
