I bought this buckle from a respected member and think it's a great example and I'm very happy with it.
It is anodized aluminum.
I want to stop the corrosion and remove the spots. I don't want the oxidation to further harm the metal, and as for my personal preference I would like it to be more presentable.
Will polishing hurt the value or raise questions about legitimacy? I do not plan on selling and I only have this for my own collection but I am curious about the opinions.
I tried a spot of vinegar on the worst corroded spot but it didn't remove the rust.
Before trying any cleaners or chemicals I would like to hear opinions. I do not want to harm the buckle but time is already doing harm.
Plan is to use an appropriate chemical to carefully remove anodizing, and then lightly sand any corrosion away. Then carefully polish with polishing wax and automatic wheel at slow speed.
Any tips/advice?
