Luftwaffe Belt buckle Id.

Good morning gentlemen,

Just looking for some general opinions on this Luftwaffe belt buckle. I can't say that I have too much experience with Luftwaffe items. However, I picked this item up just shortly before my local shops closed down for the pandemic. To my novice eye, it looks right, I just have some questions about the coloring of the front. I've seen it on other Luftwaffe buckles, but not on others. Was this something that was done during the war? And if so, was it done in the factory or in the field? Any info at all on this would be greatly appreciated as I said, I don't have much knowledge about Luftwaffe items.

Original H Aurich buckle. You can see the trademark to the left eagle on the reverse. An out door photo of the front is needed.

The answer to your question has less to do with Luftwaffe in particular. In general, I can say that I do not know of a reliable example where a Wehrmacht buckle has left the factory with different colours on the front and back. That makes no sense.

No one will be able to say whether the buckle was painted black during or after the war. Anything is possible. In most cases, however, these beautification attempts are the result of postwar amateurs.

Thanks for the extra photo. I agree with Guido. The front was painted black at some point.
