My Newest SS

Got this at a auction a few weeks ago. This one was named Oeil Cerne by J.P. Redeuilh. I believe the maker is still unknown but it might be Rudolf Fischer. This has yet to be proven. I believe the buckle is solid nickel. It has a steel prong steel prong sleeve with brass prongs and catch. Another unique feature of the buckle is the placement of the catch IMG_7960.jpgIMG_7964.jpg closer to the center of the buckle.

Very nice original buckle, congrats!

On a side note, it is nice for us buckle collectors, that we do not see fakes of any of these pre-RZM, non Overhoff nickel SS types. At least, I have never seen one. I think that while these buckles are rare, they are far safer than most SS items that have been faked so heavily. I like them a lot. Happy collecting!

That's a very interesting buckle in two respects. First, because it was obviously even more nickled, which I conclude from the monotonous and silver hue of catch and soldering. Or do we have another explanation?

And although the manufacturer is not known, it can be assumed that he obviously had a problem with the quality of production. Also with your piece, the wings from the inside are additionally reinforced with solder. I suspect this was done because the material at this point was too thin and could tear quickly during embossing or later. I also have such a buckle, on one side it was reinforced, the other not, but is promptly torn. It do not appear to have been isolated cases. I have seen the additional reinforcement from solder some times before at this maker.
What do you think?

Glad everyone likes it. I found two other examples that were sold by the same dealer and they both had the excess solder. They had more than your but less than what my buckle has.

This production flaw is very interesting. Here is my example. It appears to have some darker solder in the upper-most part of the wings on the reverse. Also, in the upsidedown photo here, you can see the small crack on the front side.
