    Question Kriegsmarine buckles

    Hello,

I have please 2 little questions about anodised Kriegsmarine belt buckles.

Is that normal that we can see on some leather tabs a lowercase "m" (as we can see on the 2 first pictures, examples I found on the Internet), because I saw the majority of the buckles have a capital letter "M", like the third picture.

    Are both stamps authentic ?

And my second question : is this metal part of the buckle also anodised, or never ?

Thank you very much in advance !

I believe they are both Capital letters just different styles. The prong pin is never anodized or gilded.

Ok, thank you for the example (both are nice one !)
I didn't know that there were two versions of aluminium buckles, gilded or anodised, I thought all of it were anodised.

I also saw that the manufacturer marking was sometimes incompletely or not marked. I have never seen this on other heer or luftwaffe buckles. How is this possible ?

Largely there are two methods for given it the golden color:
                      a) gilding according the Eloxalverfahren (goldfarbig)
                      b) spraying it with gold paint and cover it with varnish (Zaponlack). Occasionally this last procedure is not done, to avoid extra costs.

With the first one immediatelay can see if inferior materials were used. The coating is ugly and looks if done lousy. In fact just Aluminium and Leichtmetall one can golden anodize.
Some concerns not even were able to golden anodize and contracted another concern for this procedure.
