    SS Officer's field belt fake or real?

    Hi,

    I am new to this amazing forum. There is a collection of knowledge and people here that is truly amazing.

    I am attempting to determine if my recent purchase is fake or genuine. So far the feedback is 50-50. So I am hoping to get better confirmation on whether its fake or real.

    Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    The buckle is original, no doubt. Can't comment on the belt.

      I always attempt to stay away from items that have no markings. Can you tell me how you know it's authentic?

        I could, but if I did, I would be breaking a promise that I made to J.P. many years ago. So, I will let him comment here if he wishes and maybe he will tell you whatever he wants to share. I will say that unmarked ELJ buckles are not uncommon. This is a well known original example of a late war Juttner officer buckle, imo.

          The buckle itself is an original, but I have my doubts whether the clamp is part of it. Looks like it's made of aluminum. Unmarked buckles from Jüttner, however, can often be seen with zinc clamps with a roller sleeve and claws made from steel. Exchanged clamps on Jüttner SS leader buckles are not uncommon, as the original zinc ones are very fragile.

              The same apply to marked ones. There was indeed two sets of roller sleeves and claws, one from steel and the other from aluminum. But each can be found on any variant. And I should also add that the same also apply to any die serie since there was also two very distinct dies with Jüttner.

              Indeed the clamp should be made from zinc. Since it looks (to me) pretty thick I would assume those are in zinc. But the owner should know...
